Manfrotto Befree Compact Travel Tripod Review

By John Lechner

Recently we had some friends visiting and Kelly is a keen photographer so she brought her gear along and we went out for a sunrise shoot. I noticed her compact little tripod bag while we were getting organised and later had the chance to check it out in more detail.

I was so impressed I borrowed Kelly's tripod and ducked into the backyard so I could record a quick review video.

Here's why I was so impressed:

  • It is small I mean really compact.
  • Lightweight, this aluminium tripod is 112g lighter than my carbon fibre tripod.
  • Very sturdy and a payload of 4kg that will handle most rigs including my heaviest lens
  • Great price. It is roughly AU$220 or US$170. (About AU$500 cheaper than my Brian from Three Legged Thing)

Below is my video, but my advice is simple if you are looking for a great value quality tripod for travel or everyday, the Manfrotto Befree is it!
